What is Flow?

Flow is a protocol created by Dapper Labs, the developers of the CryptoKitties NFT project. Flow’s goal is to offer a faster, more efficient environment for NFT’s, decentralized apps (dApps), and crypto games. The protocol offers learning tools for developers to build their applications and to learn how to use Cadence; the native coding language of Flow.

Why does Flow have value?

While Flow is not the only protocol trying to overcome Ethereum’s flaws (slow throughput, high fees, etc.), its core value is its focus on NFT games. Dapper Labs has plenty of experience creating dApps and NFT’s on Ethereum including the very popular NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties; so they know the need for this type of efficient application.

B  :We like that Flow has purpose-built a blockchain that has the scalability and low fees to handle both globally popular NFT’s and well as the future of crypto gaming. Basically, they are trying to improve upon the areas where Ethereum has struggled. However, there are multiple blockchains that have the technology to accomplish the same thing (Solana, Avax, Wax, BSC) and have a much larger network effect. Dapper Labs is a force in the NFT space so we won’t count them out but right now it’s hard to see most AAA gaming studios choosing Flow over some of the other, more established, players.
